Marvin “Handlebar Henry” Blanton Jr.

Marvin “Handlebar Henry” Blanton Jr. passed away on Dec. 8, 2024 in Long Beach, leaving behind a legacy of joy, creativity and resilience. He was born to Marvin and Betty Ann Fuller Blanton in Laurel.

“Handlebar Henry” was a proud graduate of Gulfport East High School in 1970. He faced significant challenges in his life, most notably the loss of his home and possessions due to Hurricane Katrina. However, demonstrating his unwavering determination, he rebuilt his life in Long Beach, where he continued to reside until his passing.

Handlebar Henry’s passions were as vibrant as his personality. A devoted lover of Samoyeds, he raised three beloved dogs, Camellia, Boss and Beignets. Beyond his love for animals, Handlebar Henry enjoyed travel, music and dining out, relishing every opportunity to connect with people. His heart was always open to creating new friendships, and he had a special talent for capturing these moments, often seen snapping pictures with those he met along the way.

In addition to his personal joys, Handlebar Henry was also a man of notable achievements. He created his own logo more than 43 years ago, a testament to his creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. His charisma led him to the bright lights of Hollywood, where he proudly made a guest appearance on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in 1995 and served as an extra in several films in Los Angeles.

Handlebar Henry was survived by his beloved wife of 49 years Jane Blanton until her death on Dec. 27.

A Celebration of Life will be Thursday, March 27, from 5-7 p.m. at Riemann Family Funeral Home in Long Beach.

Riemann Family Funeral Home of Long Beach is honored to serve the family.
