Hull KR will discover their Challenge Cup opponents today, and the competition has suddenly become much more interesting. The Black and Whites produced one of the shocks of the decade as they dumped defending champions Wigan Warriors out of the competition, leaving the competition wide open.

The competition was by no means a foregone conclusion before Wigan's exit, for as excellent as they are, the Warriors aren't invincible and they have already lost two games this season. But there's little disputing that when the chips are down and the big games arrive, Matt Peet's side are absolutely the team to beat. Their departure from the competition will have given every other club extra belief that it could be their year.

Let's be honest here, Hull FC did Rovers an almighty favour over the weekend. Their biggest threat is out of the competition. That's proven by the fact it was Wigan who knocked them out of the Challenge Cup, pipped them to the League Leaders' Shield and beat them in the Grand Final in the space of one season. Without the Warriors, Hull KR would have ended their wait for a trophy last year.

With them out of the picture, it does feel like a massive opportunity for Willie Peters' side, irrespective of how the draw plays out from here. The Robins are on a remarkable run of form. They have won 21 of their last 25 matches in a run that started last May. Three of those defeats were to Wigan.

The other reverse was at home to Catalans and it does feel like a rite of passage for Rovers to draw the Dragons away. It is something they have yet to do under Willie Peters so getting an away tie in France would be a massive test of their credentials. We'll see what fate has in store for them on Monday night when the draw is made.

You'd be a fool to overlook the remaining teams in the competition. Leigh Leopards have been outstanding so far this season, Warrington and Wolves and Catalans have both struggled for form but have been dangerous while both Wakefield and Hull FC have exceeded expectations through results and performances so far this season. You never write off the Saints and who knows what's going to happen at Salford Red Devils. But like their off-field drama, they're an unpredictable side.

Rovers still have a lot of work to do to win at Wembley, but their path to silverware does seem that little bit easier with Wigan out of the competition.
