Craig Morgan certainly didn’t have to re-enlist in the United States Army Reserve last year.
He is a successful country music singer, who already had a strong history of service.
But he did it anyway, and he did it on country music’s grandest stage, surprising the audience at the Grand Ole Opry by doing it there.

During a recent stop on “Fox and Friends” Morgan was asked about why he made that decision.
“Twofold,” he said. “Recruiting was worse than it has ever been in the history of our nation, and I felt like I could bring something to the table to help with that.
“Secondly, I had 17 ½ years, and I never got a letter that said, ‘Thank you for your service,’” the 60-year-old said. “I wanted that retirement letter so bad, so this was an opportunity for me to do that.”
Morgan told the show that he was not surprised by the recent jump in recruiting numbers, and he had an interesting answer when asked if he was prouder to serve his country under President Donald Trump.
“I never joined the Army for a president,” he said. “You join the Army to serve your country, any service member will tell you that.”
Taste of Country reported that Morgan has served with the U.S. Army and Army Reserve with the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions as an E-6 Staff Sergeant and Fire Support Specialist.
