Aleksej Besciokov, a Lithuanian national wanted for orchestrating a global money-laundering network, was arrested by the Kerala Police following an Interpol Red Corner Notice. Accused of facilitating illicit transactions worth over $96 billion, his case has drawn comparisons to Gavin Packard, the late Bollywood and Malayalam actor known for portraying foreign criminals on screen. Interestingly, Besciokov’s alleged crimes span multiple countries, involving hacking, drug trafficking, and terrorism financing.

What are the allegations against him?
Authorities claim that Besciokov and his Russian co-conspirator, Aleksandr Mira Serda, ran Garantex to enable money laundering and sanctions violations. The company allegedly processed criminal proceeds while using false documentation to mislead Russian authorities. Investigators state that Besciokov assigned coded labels—such as "God," "Taliban," and "Clean Coins"—to clients based on transaction types. Garantex was previously investigated by Russia’s financial crime unit, but Besciokov allegedly evaded arrest using forged records.

Following the US move to extradite 26/11 Mumbai terror attack accused Tahawwur Rana, India intensified efforts to track Besciokov. US authorities seized three websites linked to Garantex on March 6 and froze assets worth Rs 2 lakh crore. German and Finnish officials also took action against the firm. Besciokov now faces charges in the US that could result in two 20-year prison terms and one five-year sentence.

Why does he remind one of Gavin Packard?
Besciokov's arrest has drawn comparisons to Gavin Packard, a late Bollywood and Malayalam film actor known for playing foreign antagonists. Of Irish descent, Packard frequently portrayed international criminals in Malayalam films of the 1980s and 1990s. His imposing physique and menacing roles made him a memorable figure in action cinema.

Like Packard’s on-screen characters, Besciokov is accused of being an international crime figure with operations spanning multiple countries. His operations bear similarities to the fictional criminals Packard once brought to life on screen.
